EXIT 10 Autorretratos
El autorretrato, género íntimo y personal que camina paralelo, pero autónomo, al retrato, nos ofrece la posibilidad de identificar a los artistas, de aplicar un rostro a un nombre con resonancias....
Nantes (France), 1960. He lives and works in Nantes. He studied at the Fine Arts School of Nantes from 1983 to 1988. From his first films made with his father’s super 8 camera, when he was 15 years-old, to the most recent works exhibited in international art venues, his works revolve around himself and portray a wide array of characters and situations. About him –not the artist alone, but multiple and different individuals- about his house, his tastes, his opinions; he records, interprets, sings, narrates…, always with an appreciable sense of irony and a dynamics resembling that of Russian dolls: a story, a character within another, within another… He began his self-filming in 1987 and they were broadcast for the first time on channel France 3 in 1989, a channel where he was working as a reporter. He works indiscriminately for the art sector or in advertising, film and video clips. Noteworthy among his recent commissions were his intervention on the number 2 line of the tramway to Lyon and the short video Nantes: projets d’artistes. Most outstanding among his exhibitions were his representation of France in the XXIX Sao Paulo Biennial, 1998 and other solo shows such as La Bataille des tartes, Fondation Cartier, Paris, 1994; Works 1988-1995, Capc Musée d’Art Contemporain, Bordeaux, 1995; Los mirones, MNCA Reina Sofía, Madrid, 1999; and, most recently, at the Fondation Cartier, Paris, 2001; CaixaForum, Barcelona, 2002, and Sala Rekalde, Bilbao, 2003.
