Lausanne (Switzerland), 1956. He lives and works in London and since 1997 he is Head of the Photography Department of the Royal College of Art, London. In the series he has been elaborating since the early 1990s -from Et in Arcadia Ego (1991) to Allegories of Taste (2003)- Richon has deployed a cultured gaze combining elegant and exquisite photography with incorporated phrases in the manner of titles. His images, which resemble still-lifes, reach the status of emblems or metaphors of iconographic condensations. His books and theoretical contributions include Other Than Itself. Writing Photography (ed. with John Berger), 1989, Allegories, 2000, and Real Allegories, 2006. Solo shows were held at the ICA, London, 1984; Galerie Samia Saouma, Paris, 1987; Espace d’Art Contemporain, Lausanne, 1991; Jack Shainman Gallery, New York, 1993; and Trilogy, Galleria Civica, Modena, 2005 (with Mimmo Paladino and Richard Artschwager).
