Istanbul (Turkey), 1954. His constant interest in the passage of time, memory and loss constitute the storylines throughout his work. His concern for people’s transitoriness causes him to revert to a past that he oftentimes idealizes. This is why he feels obliged to resort to masters from the past, making reference in his photographs to nineteenth century painters and the early days of photography, not to mention his constant allusions to authors of the stature of Proust and Thomas Mann whose atmosphere he seems to recreate with his images. He has recently participated at the Russian Photography Biennial (2006) and he represented Turkey at the Venice Biennial in 2003. Particularly noteworthy among his most recent solo shows are: Galeri Nev, Ankara, 2004; Kunstraum-Syltquelle, Sylt, 2005 and Flatland Gallery, Utrech, 2006, the gallery which represents him.
