Artista: Marth Rosler

New York (United States), 1943. A social and political activist since the seventies, Rosler has condemned many negative aspects of contemporary society, such as war (Bringing the war home: the happy home and The war at home: in Vietnam), the American way of life, prejudice against women, homelessness, etc. Her political commitment is based on Brecht’s aesthetic theory according to which art ought to address current events and play a significant role in the education of the masses. This is why Rosler has often refused to participate in the museum and gallery system but has instead preferred publishing projects for magazines, and placing art in more public arenas. Among her most recent exhibitions are Posicionamientos en el mundo, MACBA, Barcelona, 1999; Martha Rosler, Kiasma, Helsinki, 2000; and Pemmes d’images, Maison Européene de la Photographie, 2002. She is represented by the Gal. Anne de Villepoix, Paris.
