Artista: Joe-Peter Witkin

New York (USA) 1939. He lives and works in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He began taking photographs at age seventeen and the following year Edward Steichen chose one of his photos for its inclusion in the MoMA collection, New York. From then on, photography became his life. His work deals with the reconsideration of beauty and art history from an apparently morbid yet respectful perspective. His photos customarily reflect on death, sex, social marginalization and the “other”. His approach to the physical process of photography includes staining or scratching negatives as well as altering images with chemical substances. Witkin takes inspiration from periods and styles in the history of art.
