EXIT #23 Readers and Readings presents a selection of contemporary photographs which represent the world of reading from three points of view: from the object (books) to the pleasure (the readers) and places for reading (libraries).
The editorial by Rosa Olivares Labyrinth of Words considers the infinite world of possibilities offered by reading and books. In the same vein, the text by novelist Rosa Regás, Literature and Life in Reading, is a plea for reading as a way of improving one’s life and without which “...we would be born, live and die more condemned and enslaved than we already are”.
The central artists of the issue are Abelardo Morell, Anne Zahalka, Nazif Topçuoglu, Tomoko Yoneda and Candida Höfer.
Other featured artists include: Ignasi Aballí, Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Eugenio Ampudia, Iwan Baan, Edith Derdyk, Lalla Essaydi, Joan Fontcuberta, Maria Friberg, Lilian Gelman, Anthony Goicolea, Hong Hao, Gary Hill, Teun Hocks, Jean Baptiste Huynh, Tom Hunter, Emma Kay, André Kertesz, Jorge Macchi, Chema Madoz, Alicia Martín, Antoni Muntadas, Shirin Neshat, Joana Pimentel, Harry Pye, Caio Reisewitz, Martha Rosler, Michael Smith, Milagros de la Torre, Jeff Wall, Peter Würthrich and Anne Zahalka.
