EXIT #25 - Playing

In EXIT #25 Playing, the photographic works of selected artists illustrate the paradox surrounding the fact that toys are generally associated with childhood, whilst games, at times perverse and dangerous, are associated more commonly with the adult world.

These two aspects amongst many others are explored in this issue where toys are presented as objects of desire, fascination, satire and criticism; objects both curious and surprising because of their versatile and double meanings.

As main texts the editorial Do you want to play with me? is followed by The Moral of the Toy, a classic text by Baudelaire and Ludens the essay written by Francisco Javier San Martín Artista which in addition to providing a brief history of toys also relates this subject to the art world and artists who have used toys in their works.

The portfolios presented in this issue, written by the featured artists, bring together the works of Zoe Leonard, Olivier Rebufa, Daniel & Geo Fuchs, David Levinthal, Liliana Porter, Fischli & Weiss, Guy Ben-Ner, Blue Noses and Paul McCarthy.

Other artists include: Doug Aitken, Alice Anderson, Xoán Anleo, Hans Bellmer, Ignacio Evangelista, Gelitin, Félix González-Torres, Christian Jankowski, Mike Kelley, Ellen Kooi, Brandon Lattu, Walter Martin & Paloma Muñoz, Brian McCarty, Duane Michals, Joachim Mogarra, Bruce Nauman, Gabriel Orozco, Moira Ricci, Hiraki Sawa, Cindy Sherman, Laurie Simmons, Slinkachu and Jeff Wall.
