EXIT #63 - Wild

Wild can be an animal, a territory, but it can also be a person. Wild youth, irritated, angry. Wild actually means untamed, domesticated, referring to an animal; but wild also means unconquerable, not colonized by the hand of man speaking of a territory. If we talk about the surface of a material, it should be rough, pure, unblended, such as wild silk. But in general anything wild is a way of being or thinking, we think of someone or something free or virgin. Wild could be some place pure, far from highways and cars, or animals not enslaved by humans for their own use and consumption.

EXIT 63 focuses on the landscape and animals, where the idea of the wild is still intact. Photography, like film and literature, has always been based on the idea and the desire of the utopia of the wild. But we find out that it is only a cultural construct, a fantasy, where the representation and the represented are day by day farther away.

Miguel Morey writes about the longing for the wild, and we also interviewed Nick Brandt, the photographer who embodied in his work the mythical idea of the wild and its actual dissolution. Deserts, glaciers, forests, landscapes from the Grand Canyon until the hole of a small animal still free, all of it will fit in EXIT. Buffalos, vultures, elephants and sharks, reindeer and orangutans, fishes, birds and mammals make of EXIT a wild magazine.
