A house – each and every house, from the biggest and most luxurious to the simplest, the smallest and the most humble – is a place in which we feel safe when we walk through the door, protected from the chaos of the world we leave behind us. EXIT 84 is indeed dedicated to the house and the home, from its exteriors and architectures, and its interiors and intimacies.

EXIT 84 HOME SWEET HOME gathers the central texts by architect Xavier Montenys and art critic and curator Carles Guerra. Montenys addresses the interior dimension of the house as a frame in which we can represent ourselves, while Guerra departs from Marta Soul’s work to talk about migration and displacement, contexts in which the idea of home obtains a much stronger connotation. The features in EXIT 84 enable a journey across interior spaces with Laura Blight, Motoyuki Daifu, Jeffrey Stockbridge, Carlotta Maria Haukdottir, Amparo Garrido, or Yolanda del Amo, each of them from their own perspective, going from a Japanese family in an almost packed house to a reflection on interior ruins in which we can perceive the imprint of previous lives. The exteriors are addressed by Wouter Stelwagen with his big skyscrapers, Todd Hido with his night strolls, and John Myers with a gaze focused on urbanism. A conceptual dimension is found in John Paul Evans’ photographs, who speaks about the home from a nearly surrealist perspective and Anette LeMay Bur- ke, who evokes memories about a house that inevitably addresses the passage of time.
