Action photography is placed between different currents of 20th century art: performance, happening, dance, body art and conceptual art, among others. Between a photographic image itself and a concrete event, action photography has served as a document of great historical performances, functioning as the only vestige of what once happened, but also as an autonomous work of art.
In this issue of EXIT we feature the work of various artists who, working from different disciplines, coincide in the interest for the body as artistic support, physical processes, the observation of an object or the attention to minimum gestures. Action photography as a capture of the multiple possibilities of the body in contemporary art.
